Pack Burro Racing Returns to Superior, Arizona November 14

Get ready for one of Arizona's most unusual and entertaining outdoor adventures! On Saturday, November 14, 2026, the Superior Hee-Haw Hustle Pack Burro Race returns to historic downtown Superior, bringing runners, burros, and plenty of excitement to Main Street.

Part trail race, part celebration of Arizona's mining heritage, and entirely unforgettable, this one-of-a-kind event invites visitors to experience Superior in a whole new way. Whether you're ready to hit the trail with a four-legged teammate or prefer to cheer from the sidelines, there's something for everyone at the Hee-Haw Hustle.

A Race Rooted in Arizona's Mining History
Long before burros became unlikely racing partners, these hardworking animals played an essential role in Arizona's mining communities. They carried tools, supplies, and equipment across rugged desert terrain, helping miners navigate the mountains that surround towns like Superior.

Today, pack burro racing keeps that history alive in a decidedly entertaining fashion!
Unlike traditional running races, pack burro racing pairs one human runner with one burro. Together, they navigate a designated course on foot, with the burro carrying a pack saddle. And here's the twist: there's no riding allowed!

Success requires teamwork, patience, and a good sense of humor. After all, when your racing partner has four legs and a mind of its own, anything can happen!

From Main Street to Mountain Trails
Set against Superior's dramatic mountain scenery, the Hee-Haw Hustle takes racers from historic Main Street into the surrounding desert landscape and trails of the Tonto National Forest.

Participants can choose from three race distances:
3-Mile Fun Run: A shorter adventure that's ideal for newcomers to pack burro racing.
6-Mile Short Course: A longer challenge for teams ready to explore more of Superior's scenic trails.
13-Mile Long Course: A true endurance adventure for experienced runners and their burro partners.

Whether you're competing or watching, the sight of runners and burros making their way through downtown is guaranteed to deliver some memorable moments.
More Than a Race: A Day of Downtown Fun
You don't have to be a runner to enjoy the Hee-Haw Hustle!
Historic downtown Superior will be part of the celebration, with family-friendly activities, local vendors, food trucks, games, presentations, face painting, and more. Spectators can gather along Main Street to cheer on the teams and enjoy the festive atmosphere.

It's a wonderful opportunity to experience Superior's welcoming community, discover its small-town character, and enjoy a Saturday filled with fun.

Make a Day (or Weekend!) of It in Superior
The Hee-Haw Hustle is a great excuse to plan a fall getaway to Superior, just about an hour east of Phoenix.
Before or after the festivities, take some time to explore everything this historic mountain town has to offer.
